Our renowned powerboat training courses are taught through the Royal Yachting Association National Powerboat Scheme. The RYA is the governing body for powerboating in the UK and exists to meet the needs of those who use open powerboats for sport, whether for their own sake or in connection with another activity such as sailing, sub-aqua diving, canoeing or water skiing. The National Powerboat Scheme is applicable to sportsboats, rigid inflatable boats (RIB), dories, launches and other boats which do not normally have accommodation facilities on board. There is no lower age limit for powerboat courses but the RYA do not recommend that under 16s are left in charge of a powerboat without adult supervision. If you’ve never tried driving powerboats before, but fancy giving it a go, then why not book onto a Level 1 course? If it’s a certificate of competence you need then you can skip Level 1 and look at the Level 2 course, which leads to the International Certificate of Competence. For the experienced helmsman the Advanced Course offers an exciting opportunity to learn passage- planning skills including a night passage! For helmsmen providing safety cover for sailing activities the Safety Boat Course teaches you to supervise sailors safely. |
